CLASSIC DUBROVNIK TOUR
The tour starts in front of Revelin Fort (located by the Eastern Town Gate − Ploče), on the square overlooking the picturesque Old Town Port. After a brief introduction about the foundation and early history of Dubrovnik, we head to the Old Port, passing by the Dominican Monastery and several of the city’s many churches. As we walk through the port, you will hear interesting facts about its crucial role in the development of Dubrovnik’s Golden Age.
The walk continues through the narrow alleys of the oldest part of Old Town until we reach the Jesuit Monastery and Church of St. Ignatius. From there we reach the heart of the Old Town with some of its most important sights: the Cathedral, Rector’s Palace, Sponza Palace, Church of St. Blaise, Orlando Column and the Jewish Ghetto. After we cover their role and significance, we continue our walk down the city’s main street, Stradun. We talk about the way of living in Dubrovnik in the past, its advanced infrastructure and housing.
From the main street we enter one of the alleys to hear about the old orphanage and the history of football in Dubrovnik. After seeing the Convent of St. Claire and Franciscan Monastery, our next stop is Onofrio’s Fountain, where you will hear about one of Dubrovnik’s greatest architectural achievements, its water supply system. After we reach the nearby Western Town Gate − Pile, we enter Pile Park, located in the former moat beneath the City Walls. After a brief overview of the fall of Dubrovnik, the tour ends with an impressive view of Lovrjenac Fort.
